This series is about the oriental housewives. I tried to capture their distinctive feature – short hair.
There should be an evolving history of housewives’ hair. I once heard from an elderly wife who said that it was easier to carry out household duties and to take care of children when she kept her hair short. I also heard from a beautiful young wife who cut her hair short because she did not want to reveal her beauty with her long hair. I have also heard a husband complaining about his wife not wearing long hair.
In 1950, a home economics book published “Good Wife’s Guide” which gave advice to high school girls on how to prepare themselves for married life. I found some of the rules ridiculous, yet the rules, pathetically, were used to sustain marriages.
