2009 Beauty Reconstruction

(commissioned work)

This series is inspired by how beauty was depicted in paintings throughout the art history.

Graceful downcasting eyes, long and elegant faces, and small mouths are the common features found in the beauties in paintings from the East and the West alike.  These beauties look so stunning that they appear like statutes.  With the fluidity of ink, I attempt to reconstruct a new form of beauty by combining the ‘beauty features’ of different cultures.
